Palissy Monkey Teapot in grainey lead glaze
This is a Palissy Monkey teapot with the hat forming the lid.
The creature is feasting upon a coconut clench between his hands. It dates to the 1850's and was made b y Caldas da Rainha in Portugal the ware had a renaissance. Palissy ware was originally made at Saintes in France and Portugal during the 16th century.
